The freely rising concepts of dreams are demonstrably suppressed, and the identical mechanisms apply also to the freely rising concepts of the inventive process. Freud writes in “The Technique of Dream-Interpretation”:There are many individuals who don’t seem to find it simple to adopt the desired attitude toward the apparently “freely rising” concepts, and to renounce the criticism that is otherwise applied to them. The “undesired concepts” habitually evoke the foremost violent resistance, that seeks to prevent them from coming to the surface.
